Choosing the right communication tool for your church matters, and Flocknote is a well-known option for churches. It's good at what it was built for: sending emails and texts to your congregation, managing member records and processing giving online.
But the day-to-day life of a church is more than announcements going out. It's youth leaders and volunteer teams messaging, small groups staying connected and pastoral conversations that need a safe place to happen. That's the part Flocknote was never built for and it's exactly what Jovo does.
Jovo gives your church a secure place to talk online. A dedicated space for every ministry, no personal numbers shared, plus the oversight your safeguarding lead needs when something sensitive comes up.
What Flocknote Does Well
Flocknote is a capable tool, and many churches rely on it.
It sends unlimited email and texts, so a church can reach its whole congregation quickly. It also keeps a tidy member database, handles event and class registration and manages giving online without much fuss. For a church whose main need is communication from the church office, it does the job and does it well.
The questions start when a church needs its people to talk to each other, without waiting for the office to start the conversation.
What a Church Still Has to Solve
Three things sit outside what Flocknote was built to do:
Group conversation needs another home.
Flocknote is built around the church sending emails and texts out, and members replying to them. Much of a church's communication does not start that way. Your worship leader needs to ask three people to swap for Sunday, and your youth team is sorting out lifts for Friday night. None of that starts at the church office, so none of it happens in Flocknote. That daily back-and-forth ends up happening through personal messaging.
Safeguarding still needs its own answer.
Flocknote has admin controls, but it was designed around communication, records and giving, not around protecting the everyday conversations a church has with its young people and vulnerable adults. If a concern comes up in a message, someone needs to be able to see it, act on it and keep a record.
UK data protection is still your problem.
Flocknote is an American product, shaped around US parish life. It runs on servers spread across multiple geographic locations and offers no UK data residency. That matters for a UK church, because your congregation's details, including who attends which group, are personal data you remain accountable for.

What Jovo Does Instead
Everything below is built around one thing: keeping your church's conversations in a place you control.
A dedicated space for every ministry
Youth, worship, volunteers, small groups, trustees. Every group has its own space, so a message goes to the people it concerns and nobody else.
Built for group conversation
Teams plan, groups stay connected and people reply to each other, all in one place instead of drifting back to a personal group chat.
No personal numbers shared
People join with a name and an email. A volunteer who helps for a fortnight does not walk away holding the mobile number of everyone else on the team.
No direct messages, by design
There is no route in Jovo for an adult to start a private conversation with a young person. It is not a setting to switch on because it does not exist.
Safeguarding is built in, not bolted on
When a difficult situation comes up over a message, the right people can see it and step in. The record is there for your safeguarding lead when it is needed.
GDPR-compliant, UK-hosted
Your church's data is held in the UK and protected by default, with the oversight and records your safeguarding lead needs.
It works with what you already use
ChurchSuite and Planning Center integrations keep your groups and people in sync.
Moving across is straightforward
There are no setup fees, and every plan above Lite includes live onboarding and staff training rather than leaving you to work it out alone.
