Most people join a Group at the same level of access. As a Group grows, you may want some people to do more: post updates, look after who is in the Group or take responsibility for the Group as a whole. Permissions let you set that, and change it again whenever someone's role shifts.
This article is for anyone who looks after a Group and wants to give a member more access or take it away again.
Permission levels
Member is the default level. Members take part in the Group with no additional access.
Poster can post in the Group. This is useful where you want only certain people posting.
Membership Manager can manage who is in the Group, including inviting people. Membership Managers can also post.
Owner has full rights over the Group, including changing its settings and deleting it. A Group can have more than one Owner.
Edit a member's permissions
- Open the Group you want to manage.
- Select Manage Group.
- Go to Members to see everyone in the Group.
- Find the person you want to edit and open the options next to their name.
- Select the level you want to give them: Owner, Membership Manager or Poster.
The change applies straight away, and the new level shows against their name in the member list.
Remove a permission
- Open the Members list for the Group.
- Find the person and open the options next to their name.
- Deselect the level you want to take away.
They stay in the Group as a Member, with no additional access.
Owners can change or delete a Group, so give that level only to people you want to have that control.
Outcome
You can now set the right level of access for everyone in your Group, and adjust it as people take on new responsibilities or step back. Permissions are not permanent, so you can revisit them whenever your Group changes.
