How to update Conversation Group settings

Every group talks in its own way. A youth team might want reactions and comments flying around, while a staff noticeboard works better when it stays quiet. Conversation Group settings let you decide how much back and forth happens in each group, so the feel of the group matches what it is actually for.

This is for anyone with admin access on the Jovo admin site who looks after groups day to day.

Before you start

Conversation Groups are built for two-way talk, so these settings control how members take part. If you are not sure which kind of group you are working with, have a look at What are the different types of Groups? first.

Update the settings

1. Sign in to the Jovo admin site and open your list of groups.
2. Select the Conversation Group you want to change.
3. Open the group's settings.
4. Switch each setting on or off to suit the group.
5. Save your changes so they apply to everyone in the group.

Changes take effect straight away, and you can come back and adjust them at any point as the group settles into a rhythm.

What each setting does

Reactions

Lets members respond to a post with a quick reaction. Handy when you want people to acknowledge a message without filling the group with replies.

Comments

Lets members reply underneath a post. Turn this off when you want a group to stay as a clean feed of updates rather than a conversation.

Join and leave messages

Shows a short note in the group whenever someone joins or leaves. Helpful for small groups where people like to welcome new faces, and worth turning off in larger groups where it adds noise.

Member posting

Lets members start their own posts, not just respond to yours. Leave it on for groups that share between themselves, and off when only leaders should be posting.

Finding the right balance

There is no single correct set-up. A small group that meets midweek usually benefits from everything switched on, while a group that exists to pass on information stays calmer with comments and member posting turned off. Start with what the group needs, then adjust once you see how people use it.
