When someone new joins a group, Post History decides how much of the conversation they can see. Sometimes you want a new member to arrive and catch up on everything. Other times it is better for them to start fresh. Post History lets you choose, group by group.
This article is for anyone who manages groups in your account, and it explains what each option does and how to change it in the Jovo admin site.
Post History only affects people joining a group from that point on. It sets how far back a new member can scroll once they arrive. Anyone already in the group keeps seeing what they could see before, whatever you choose.
There are three options:
None
New members see none of the messages sent before they joined. The group starts fresh for them. This works well where earlier conversations were sensitive, private or simply no longer relevant.
Starred
New members see only the messages you have starred and marked as important. This is a good middle ground for groups with a lot of day to day chat but a handful of posts that everyone needs, such as a welcome message, key dates or a set of instructions.
All history
New members see everything posted in the group before they joined. Choose this where the full picture is useful, for example a group that doubles as a reference point and where past decisions still matter.
The new setting applies to anyone who joins after you save it. You can come back and change it at any time, so it is worth reviewing when a group's purpose shifts.
If you choose Starred, remember to star anything new members will need. A group set to Starred with nothing starred behaves much like None.
Post History sits alongside your other group controls. It is separate from who can join and what they can do once they are in, which you can set through Group membership permissions.
You can now set how much of a group's past conversation new members see, and adjust it whenever a group changes. New members get the context they need without seeing conversations that were never meant for them, and you keep control of what carries over.
